Storage

Keep an eye on your ZFS storage from the same dashboard. FreeSDN talks to TrueNAS SCALE and CORE, using a WebSocket JSON-RPC transport with TLS on modern SCALE and the REST API on older SCALE and CORE, and rolls pool health, disk temperatures, redundancy, alerts, and scrub progress into one view.

BuiltPlatform: TrueNAS SCALE / CORETransport: WebSocket JSON-RPC / RESTRole: Health + Fabric blob target

Fabric participant for TrueNAS SCALE and CORE. Modern SCALE (25.04+) connects over a WebSocket JSON-RPC transport with TLS; older SCALE and CORE use the REST API, and the adapter auto-selects on connect. Provides ZFS pool health, disk temperatures, redundancy status, active alerts, and scrub progress as a unified rollup, and handles staged blob writes from other modules through the Fabric layer.

What you can do

Storage capabilities

ZFS pool health rollup

Pool capacity, status (including degraded), and redundancy layout such as RAIDZ3 in one health summary. The demo shows a pool flagged above its warning threshold.

Disk temperatures and redundancy

Surface per-disk temperatures and redundancy status so you catch a failing drive early.

Active alerts and scrub progress

See TrueNAS alerts and track scrub progress without logging into the NAS itself.

Data-protection overview

Snapshot, replication, and cloud-sync counts roll up so you know at a glance that your data is protected.

Fabric blob writes

Through the Fabric interconnect, other modules can write blobs such as evidence archives to storage; TrueNAS participates as a Fabric target.

Auto-selected transport

Modern TrueNAS SCALE is reached over a TLS WebSocket JSON-RPC channel; older SCALE and CORE use the REST API. The adapter picks the right transport on connect.

Good to know
  • Storage is health-oriented: it reports ZFS state and accepts staged blob writes through Fabric, rather than acting as a general filesystem manager.
